THE WHITEHEAD CUP (VENERABLE VETS.)

Presented by Mrs Margaret Whitehead in 2008 during the captaincy of Mrs Charlotte Drake for the Venerable Vets. (women aged 70+) Championship.

Mrs Whitehead’s husband, Bernard, was a very good snooker player and in 1974 he won a huge silver trophy at Bristol Gentleman’s Club, together with a small silver cup to keep. Both cups came from Parsons the Jewellers, and the owner retired to Budleigh Salterton and became a member of East Devon Golf Club. Mrs Whitehead commented that the small cup was rather feminine for a gentleman’s competition and her husband said that when he ‘had departed this life’ she could donate it to the ladies section.
